Talk:Direct Manipulation

Should we make a reference to Shneiderman on direct manipulation? The take of the ontology certainly relates to Shneiderman's concept, though we seem to focus on the one-to-one relationship of the controls, instead of emphasizing the analogies between the "real" world and the effects of the player's actions in the game. (I was just re-reading the article, and had a silly a-ha moment). Reference is Shneiderman, B. (2003). Direct Manipulation: A Step Beyond Programming Languages. In N. Wardrip-Fruin & N. Montfort (Eds.), The new media reader (pp. 486-499). Cambridge, Mass.: MIT Press. (Originally published in IEEE Computer 15: 57-69. August 1983. --Clara 21:42, 26 March 2007 (EDT)

"A-ha" moments are never silly. :-) I think it would be a great idea to add a relevant reference here. Go ahead and make any changes you feel are pertinent! --Jp 22:15, 27 March 2007 (EDT)
