I haven't played Age of Empires in a long time, but I think I remember that the terrain could have fairly gentle hills. This doesn't necessarily mean the gameplay wasn't fundamentally 2d, but the engine did recognize elevation, i.e. arrows shot from the top of a hill downwards did more damage. Maybe this doesn't belong in Strong Examples?

Agreed. However, did the height of the hills have some effect on gameplay? Jp 10:00, 1 March 2007 (EST)
